ONIBA ENGAGES WITH LAGOS IGBO LEADERSHIP, SUES FOR PEACE AND MASSIVE SUPPORT FOR SANWO-OLU

11/03/2023

Towards achieving the second term bid of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, the paramount ruler of Iba Kingdom and state chairman of Lagos state parks and garages administrators, HRM Oba Sulaimon Raji, met with the leaderships of the Igbo Community and other critical stakeholders to drum support for the re-election of the Governor.

In a meeting at his palace with key stakeholders consisting of the High Chiefs within Iba Kingdom and the leaders of the Igbo Community from the Ojo axis, Iba and Otto-Awori, the king noted that the meeting is very needed to harmonise interests and ensure the continuity of the good governance being witnessed in Lagos.

He remarked that he is not just the king for the Yoruba, but for all the sons and daughters and residents of Iba Kingdom regardless of their tribe, creed or race, and that Lagos is for all, as such, concerted efforts must be made to make it work for everybody. He appreciates the resilience of the Igbo people for peacefully engaging in their trades and businesses thus far and sues for more peaceful coexistence in order to enjoy the dividends of the Sanwoolu’s led administration.

In a response, one of the leaders of the Igbo Community stated vehemently that the outcome of the Presidential election was as a result of the austerity and troubles occasioned by the fuel and naira scarcity which almost crippled their businesses. In his statement: ‘Many of our people were angry and hungry about the harsh  economic policies, but Governor Sanwoolu has definitely proven to us that Lagos is a land of opportunities for all, and we shall mobilise support for his re-election’.

The Oniba-Ekun thereafter appealed to them to come out en masse together with their households to vote for the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidates in order to continue the ‘Greater Lagos Rising’ campaign.
