A former presidential aide Jonathan Asake has said Fulani herdsmen turned his community into an Emirate when handed a grazing area.

Concise News had reported that the Federal Government wants to set up Ruga settlements for herdsmen in the country as a means to curb clashes between herders and farmers.

However, the move has been greeted with controversy, especially in the southern part of Nigeria with many claiming it is a plot to “Fulanize” the country.

Speaking on the issue, Asake, a former member of the House of Representatives, said the plan is an attempt to foist Fulani hegemony on Nigerians,

According to Asake, who is from Southern Kaduna, in 1987, the Kaduna State Government approved Ruga settlements for the old Kachia Local Government Area, made up of Zangon Kataf, Chikun, Kajuru and Kachia local government areas presently.

He, however, said that over time, the Fulani herdsmen started expansion from these settlements which have now be converted in Emirates.

“That grazing reserve has been changed to Laduga. Laduga is actually a Fulani word and no indigene is there,” he told Channels TV, weekend.

“The land has been taken over from the indigenes. And that place is now a big town, with big hospitals and roads.”
