POPULAR NIGERIAN SINGER CHINKO EKUN IN TROUBLE!!! SHEDS TEARS OF AGONY AFTER HIS YAHOO BOY SPONSORS

The Nigerian music industry is rumored to be largely fueled by cash from internet fraudsters also known as Yahoo Boys. It is because of this reason many believe that a lot of musicians are largely quiet in the ongoing debate as to whether internet fraud is simply a means to survive brought about by the inadequacies of the government or it’s just simply bad.

This issue arose when female musician Simi called out internet fraudsters for destroying the image of Nigeria and making it hard for people who do legitimate work to actually get good business connections when they go abroad because a lot of foreigners see us as scammers. As said earlier many other artists were silent on this topic, however Naira Marley a Nigerian artist boldly spoke up against Simi saying that internet fraud was a form of payback to the western world for the transatlantic slave trade.

When this bold move was made Nigerians saw it as further proof that many artistes are afraid to speak up or support Yahoo Boys because they make money from them. One of the artists accused of this was Chinko Ekun whose latest single ‘Able God’ is said by many to be a glorification of internet fraud. In an interview with Punch the singer, however, denied this saying his song was meant to inspire people who are broke.

He said, “I really don’t have anything to say about that issue. It is really something that doesn’t concern me and I wouldn’t want to get involved in that. Everybody is entitled to their opinions. I know why I recorded the song, Able God. It is a song meant to inspire people who are broke, and whenever they hear the song, they are always happy. It is just a normal song that came to me naturally. People can always interpret it their own ways and I don’t have any power over that. I don’t sing to support bad behavior, and I am not concerned about what anybody says.”

Speaking on his NYSC experience, Chinko Ekun said, “I’m still a corper, and it has been a wonderful experience. It feels good and people really love me. Anytime I go for my clearance or any official activity, a lot of people want to take pictures with me. I feel great about it and I try to help out in any way I can. However, I don’t let my celebrity status get to my head and I behave like every other corper.”

On whether he gets preferential treatment from officials of the scheme, he said, “I don’t get any special treatment from our supervisors and other NYSC officials. They treat me just like everybody else and that’s fine by me.”
